Help with Credit Repair

What Road to Take

You want help with credit repair and you hear the terms, debt consolidation, debt management, credit counseling, credit repair companies. You get confused because you don’t know where to go for help.

Unfortunately when people are looking for help with credit repair, there are debt situations that must be handled also.

My suggestion is to sit back, take a breath and make a list. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to evaluate all of your options and how they affect your credit repair journey.

What I will do here is give you information on your options as well as some resources you might find useful to check into.

Before you start, let me just say, you can do the same thing that any company you look at can do. However, they have the experience and know the process. It’s like changing the oil in my car. I know how to do it but would rather pay the mechanic to do it so that I don’t have to use my time and energy and deal with the frustration of it.

Step 1: Set up a unique email account with google or yahoo. Use this email account for the inquiries you plan to make online. Most of the companies have some type of free evaluation tool.... use it. The tools can be very beneficial to you understanding your choices.

Step 2: Make a list of questions that you want answered. Some of these might be.
How will it help me with my specific situation?
What are the benefits?
How will your service affect my credit score?
What does the service include?
What is the cost?
What is the expected time frame for the service/s?
What is the expected outcome?
You can always add more to your list based on your experience.

Step 3: Research your options Many companies will offer free consultations. My suggestion - get a few free consultations and ask a lot of questions. Do not only look at the cost, instead look at the value you get for the price.

What are your options?

With all these terms being used, I thought it would be helpful to define them and give you more information on your choices.

Debt Consolidation is an option if you have gotten to the point where you can’t keep up with your payments. Debt consolidation can be a better road than filing for bankruptcy. What happens here is that you take all of your debt, put it together so you only have one company that you are paying on a monthly basis.

Debt Management is when you work with a debt solutions company to create a budget and a plan to payoff your debts.

Debt Settlement is when you, or someone on your behalf, negotiates a reduced balance on a debt that would be considered as paid in full.

Credit Counseling is about getting educated on how to avoid incurring debts that you cannot pay.

Credit Restoration or Repair is when you work on your own or with a credit restoration company to get negative marks off your credit report.
