Credit Report Repair Sample Letter #2 is a request for documentation that an account belongs to you. Often a reporting agency cannot supply this so the item is removed from your report.
By the way, because the credit agency has to prove the legitimacy of any disputes you have, it is best not to send them any documentation to prove anything. Ask that they get it from the creditor.
The burden of proof is not on you. The burden of proof is on the agency and the creditor. Let them do their due diligence.
Replace anything in the [brackets] with your specific information.

Dear Credit Bureau,
Please provide me with documentation that the following account belongs on my credit report and that my rights have not been abolished.
In the case that there is no documentation, please delete this damaging and inaccurate account.
[Account Name], Account #[xxxxx]
[Your credit report or confirmation number (if available).]
Marked Copy of Credit Report
Again it is really important that you do NOT send any additional documentation on the account. Let the credit bureau do the work.
Many times they are unable to get substantiation. It there are no substantiating documents, then they are obligated by law to remove it from your report.
Be sure to review a copy of your credit report on a regular basis. This will help save you time and aggravation so you can be sure it is cleaned up before you need it.
